Scholarship Programs

JAEP provides scholarships aimed at supporting academic pursuits in equine studies, promoting the development of skilled professionals in the industry:

  • Support for Academic Education: Scholarship support for students pursuing degrees or certifications in equine-related fields, such as equine science, management, and other relevant disciplines.
  • Equine Veterinarian Scholarships: We offer specific scholarships for aspiring equine veterinarians, covering some tuition, books, and other educational expenses. These scholarships aim to address the critical need for veterinary professionals specializing in horse care.
On-the-Job Training Programs

Designed to provide practical skills and experience necessary for a successful career in the equine industry:

  • Comprehensive training: These programs offer training in various aspects of equine care, management, and sports. Producing well equipped Barn Managers, Grooms, Trainers, Assistants, Lesson Instructors, Breeding Managers, and more.
  • Mentorship and guidance: Participants receive mentorship from experienced professionals, gaining insight and expertise that is crucial for their development.
  • Career advancement: The training programs aim to equip individuals with the skills required for employment in the equine industry, enhancing their career prospects and professional growth.

About the Equine Vet Shortage

One of the primary objectives of JAEP is to address the equine veterinarian shortage. There are many factors that contribute to this crisis, including, but not limited to a limited number of spaces available to veterinary students, the high cost of vet school, and a lack of space in educational and professional settings for fostering an attractive culture for prospective equine vet students.

While this is a national issue, rural areas with large equine populations, such as Reddick and the other communities surrounding Ocala, suffer the most.

However, the shortage is not only limited to equine vets. In the past few years, the lack of vets in all fields of practice has become apparent. Luckily, there is hope. Almost a dozen new accredited veterinary schools will be opening in the United States, and existing schools are expanding their class sizes. This increase in opportunities for vet school hopefuls is a promising way to address the demand for veterinarians and JAEP is determined to make sure that the field of equine medicine benefits from this expansion.

JAEP will use this momentum to foster careers in equine medicine through our Education Program, which includes:
